Do You Need a licence?
In the UK you need a licence to fly a microlight as in most other countries. The licence is a National Private Pilots Licence issued on behalf of the CAA
MEDICAL FITNESS?
Before taking instruction make sure you are fit enough and could pass a medical for DVLA Class 2 – i.e. HGV/Bus licence.
WHO CAN TEACH ME?
Only a microlight instuctor can teach towards a NPPL licence
ONCE I HAVE PASSED HOW DO I KEEP CURRENT?
You will require a minimum of 12hrs flight in two years, 12 take off and landings plus one hour with an instructor and valid medical.
WHAT DOES TRAINING INVOLVE?
You will require
– Minimum of 25hrs flight training.
– Five ground based exams (multi choice).
– A general skills test.
Is there a minimum age?
Hours can only be lodged from 14yrs.
You can fly solo from 16yrs.
You must be 17yrs old to attain a licence.
HOW much does it cost?
Minimum 25hrs
Average is about 40hrs @ £120.00
Additional cost £100 to join CLUB & BMAA membership.
Budget roughly £5000.
